Pop out for a long weekend or week to conquer Spain's highest rideable mountain at an altitude of 3400m then descend all the way to the sea at Castel de ferro - a whopping 114km away!
Our famous Snow to Sea
This is our famous 114km 'descent'. An exceptional ride available for only four months of the year because of snow and the quickly changeable weather at 3400m! We drive to the ski village at Pradollano at 2200m just east of Granada. From here we take the ski lift as far as possible then onto our bikes for the last few Km of climbing on the highest tarmac road in Europe. The air is thin and it's tough on the legs, but once you're there, it's payback time!
On a clear day you can see Morocco, but that's not our concern as we spy the track snaking below. Without hanging around for too long (it can be cold at 3400m!) we crack on and lose height quickly. Speeds of over 35-40mph can be achieved and easily maintained on this trail so pinch flats are a real concern, especially as the trail narrows to thin singletrack where any drifting off your line will result in an instant flat!
As we lose height our speed comes down for the more technical singletrack, which there is a lot of! Depending on your ability and fitness we will take the most challenging route to Orgiva, this is not an easy descent. Riding singletrack from almost 3000m to 600m in a single hit is tough but the adrenaline will keep you going - it's only when you stop you realise how tired you are!
From Orgiva you have a tough road climb, 13km and 800m height gain. The good news is that there is a coffee stop near the top. This is means to an end and yet again, well worth the effort (at the time you might not agree!) but this has now set you up for the final, fast singletrack descent of over 1200m to Castel de Ferro.
In Castel, tired, broken, hungry but elated and on a high from your achievement, you will taste the best beer in the world as you dip your feet in the Mediterranean sea!

It's an Epic ride for a great reason!
This is a great ride and a classic for good reason. The key to success is to pace yourself. Sounds easy, but the singletrack is so much fun you'll just want to go as fast as you can...and blow!
There is no guarantee that you'll get there in one day, but we do guarantee you'll have fun trying!
